India has etched history after winning the T20 World Cup 2026. This match was even more exciting for the fans, as Suryakumar Yadav lifted the title in his first ever ICC tournament as a skipper. But it seems that the former skipper, Rohit Sharma, predicted his success way before we even knew.
Since last night, the Indian cricket team is all over the internet for its historic T20 World Cup win. India has now become the only nation to win the tournament three times, win it while hosting, and also win it consecutively. All these records have been made possible under the captaincy of .
While everyone is singing his praises, it seems that one player already knew about it, a long time back. And it is the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma. After India's win, a tweet made by the Hitman in 2011 has gone viral, and it seems that he was among the few players who noticed the talent in Suryakumar Yadav.
Hitman’s 2011 Tweet
Back in 2011, Rohit Sharma was a part of the Indian cricket team across formats. With his performances, he also attended the BCCI awards, which happened in Chennai. There he met with various young talents, out of which one was able to become the centre of attention for the Hitman.
And it was Mumbai's very own, Suryakumar Yadav. on the same day (10 December 2011), saying, “Just got done with BCCI awards here in chennai..some exciting cricketers coming up..Suryakumar yadav from Mumbai to watch out for in future!”

Back in 2011, the Hitman got to know about Suryakumar Yadav and even informed the world about the rising star. Although the debut of the current Indian captain came late, he could be one of the finest late bloomers in the history of T20I format. Even before the T20 World Cup 2026, fans were reminded of Rohit's tweet back in 2022.
India was going against England in a T20I series, and had already won the first two games. In the third T20I, where England were able to score 215 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. India had to chase down this mammoth target to secure a clean sweep against England, but the top order struggled. India stood at the score of 31/3, when Suryakumar Yadav took the centre stage.

From that moment, he took India way too close to the win. Suryakumar Yadav went on to score 117 runs off 55 balls with 14 fours and 6 sixes. Unfortunately, he lost his wicket in the 19th over, and India also fell short by 17 runs to win the game. But the arrival of Suryakumar was announced.
SKY's Unmatched Captaincy
Suryakumar Yadav has also gained success as a captain of the Indian team. He was announced as Team India's captain for the T20I side right after India had won the T20 World Cup 2024. Now it was his chance to defend the title and also create history by doing it successfully. First, he led India to the Asia Cup, where the team headed as the defending champions.

The Indian team went undefeated in the Group stages of the tournament and even advanced to the Super Fours. Winning all games in Super Fours further helped India to make it to the finals against Pakistan. Suryakumar Yadav was once again able to show his brilliance as a captain, as India won the Asia Cup 2025 without losing a single game.
T20 World Cup 2026
Then came the T20 World Cup 2026, which was hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Being the hosts of the tournament, there were several things SKY had to keep in his mind. A host team has never won the T20 World Cup, no team has won the T20 World Cup three times, and no team has won the T20 World Cup consecutively.
But Suryakumar Yadav, along with his team, went on to break all the records. and advanced to the Super Eight easily. There, India started off with a loss against South Africa, but grabbed two consecutive wins against Zimbabwe and West Indies to advance to the semi-finals.
The semi-final against England came out to be a high scorer, as India posted above 250. While England came too close to the chase, kept the key bowlers preserved for the end. Eventually, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah did the job well towards the end, putting India into the finals.
Eventually in the finals, India faced New Zealand in what came to be a one-sided clash. India once again posted a massive total, with the top order shining well. New Zealand were bowled out 96 runs short of the target, and India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup as the hosts.
