Reports | Shakib Al Hasan might face 18-month ban for not reporting corrupt approach
A Bangladesh local media has reported that Shakib Al Hasan is set to be banned for not reporting a corrupt approach and could be banned for 18 months by the International Cricket Council. Samakal has also reported that Shakib has been kept away from practice by the BCB on ICC's insistence.
It seems problems with Bangladesh cricket is a never-ending one. After Shakib Al Hasan led a player strike to change the revenue-sharing model of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and Tamim Iqbal pulled out of the India tour, citing personal reasons, now reports have emerged that Shakib Al Hasan might face a lengthy ban for not reporting corrupt approach.
According to one of the countryâs leading Bengali daily âSamakalâ, the all-rounder is being kept away from practice ahead of the teamâs high-profile India tour on ICCâs instructions.Â
âIt was on the insistence of ICC that Shakib has been kept away from practice by the BCB. Thatâs the reason he neither featured in the practice games nor did he join the meeting late on Monday evening with the president to discuss pink-ball Test,â the paper reported.
The ICC has refrained from making any comment at this stage but according to the daily, Shakib received an offer from a bookie before an international match two years ago, which he did not report to the ICCâs Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). Shakib also confessed about it to the ACSUâs investigating officers recently and now his career is in jeopardy due to his non-reporting.
Bangladesh start their India tour with the three T20Is, starting on November 3, before kicking off their World Test Championship campaign from November 14. The second Test at Eden Gardens begins from November 22, one that BCCI wants it to be a Day/Night affair.
