Virat Kohli is expected to miss out on the ODI series against Afghanistan. He suffered with a hamstring injury in the IPL final against Gujarat Titans, where he played a match winning knock. Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to replace Virat Kohli in the squad.

The Indian team and fans have been hit by a major setback right before the one off Test. Fans have been waiting for the ODI series, as they would witness both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli together in the team. But that may not happen this time, as Virat Kohli is likely to miss out on the ODI series against Afghanistan.

He suffered with a hamstring injury in the TATA IPL final against Gujarat Titans. Kohli was seen suffering with an injury while he was taking runs. Still, it was unclear whether he was injured at that time or suffering with cramps, due to which his name was also included in the squad for the Afghanistan series. But now, it is likely that he will be ruled out of the series due to the injury.

In his place, the Indian team is expected to go with Ruturaj Gaikwad at number three. Gaikwad was a part of the team in the series against South Africa, when Shreyas Iyer was injured.

Our Take

With Virat Kohli missing out on the ODI series, it also comes as an opportunity for Ruturaj Gaikwad to perform well. While he was able to do well for the team in the series against South Africa, he was dropped for the series against New Zealand. For Virat Kohli, the time required for rehabilitation is low but the Indian management needs to take a look at his workload. Due to this reason, he is likely to be available for the series against England.
