The Big Bash League might be going through some massive changes in the coming season. Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars could be merged into one team. Cricket Victoria is considering selling off the license of one of the two teams before the next season.

For years, we have witnessed two teams of the same region being a part of the Big Bash League. But that may no longer be the case in the upcoming season. Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars have their own history in the tournament, but the future of one of these two teams is now under question.

Cricket Victoria, the board which owns both of these teams is now considering to sell out the stakes of one of them. At the same time, it should be noted that Cricket Australia is still not able to come to an agreement with all six states for the privatisation of the BBL. Amidst all this, a move by Cricket Victoria to sell out one team could be a big one.

Reports also claim that Cricket Victoria is looking to sell the license of one of these two teams as soon as possible. Eventually, it will merge Melbourne Stars and Renegades, as they would be wearing a blue Victorian jersey. The home-ground for this new team will be the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Our Take

It is a big move by Cricket Victoria to sell the license of one of these two teams and merge them. Fans will no longer be able to witness the clash between Melbourne Stars and Renegades if this happens. But this decision is still not confirmed, with Cricket Australia working on ways through which they will be able to complete the privatisation of the tournament.
