Windies players told me India didn’t want to see Pakistan qualify for the WC semis, reveals Mushtaq Ahmed

Mushtaq Ahmed has stated that Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, and Andre Russell had told him that India did not want Pakistan to qualify for the 2019 World Cup semis. As a matter of fact, India had to win against England for Pakistan to hold any chance to dethrone New Zealand from qualifying.

Former Pakistani cricketer Sikander Bakht recently claimed, in a paragraph from Ben Stokes’ book, that India had lost intentionally to England to remove Pakistan from the World Cup. Although Stokes himself called that fake news and he made no such attack on the Indian team, former Pakistani spinner Mushtaq Ahmed added insult to the injury. 

Ahmed, who was working with the West Indies squad at last year’s World Cup added that after India's loss to England, Jason Holder, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell told him that India didn’t want Pakistan to qualify for the semi-finals. 

“I was working with the West Indies squad at last year’s World Cup. After India’s loss to England, Jason Holder, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell said to me, Mushy, India didn’t want to see Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals,” Mushtaq Ahmed told Pakistani news channel ARY Sports.

India lost the game after a slow partnership between MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav, and eventually, New Zealand went on to qualify for the semis. Ironically enough, India lost to the Kiwis in the semis to bid goodbye to an otherwise brilliant campaign.
