In what has come as a blow for West Indies in the World Cup, Andre Russell has been ruled out of the ICC World Cup 2019 due to his persistent knee injuries. Windies Cricket has been proactive in their approach and instantly named Sunil Ambris as the replacement for the all-rounder.
Russell has been out of form with the bat in this World Cup but his performances with the ball have been Windies’ one of the biggest strengths. The Jamaican has picked up as many as five wickets from four games but he was visibly struggled with his movements due to his problems in his knees.
He struggled in his movement in the match against Bangladesh and was seen going on his knees in the outfield. That ruled him out of the subsequent New Zealand clash and although he was expected to be a part of the match against India, the ICC released a statement saying, the hard-hitter has been ruled out of the World Cup.
The Events Technical Committee has announced that Sunil Ambris will be the replacement for the game and he will join the team in the build up to the match against India against Old Trafford in Manchester.
Ambris is known to be a hard-hitter and has an average of 105.33 from his six ODIs, and his only century in the format came against Ireland in the tri-series just before the World Cup.
