People can say all they want, but R Ashwin’s Mankading act to dismiss Jos Buttler has made many players consciously stay inside their crease. David Warner’s tactics to overcome it was the ideal representation of it as the Aussie grounded his bat until the last second when Ashwin was bowling.
When Ravichandran Ashwin Mankaded Jos Buttler, the cricketing world was operating in both extremes, and while one group just dismissing it as a blatant act of spirit of cricket violation, other extreme sat comfortably knowing that if it was within the rule book, then it shouldn’t have been a problem. The active players, however, knew that Ravichandran Ashwin doesn’t mind doing such stuff, and may well do it again in the future.
After David Warner nudged the very first ball of the seventh over to mid-wicket for a single, Ashwin tried to bring in his drift to the fore and to pull that off successfully, the Kings XI Punjab skipper came close to the stumps. Warner was at the non-striker’s end with Vijay Shankar on strike, but forgetting Ashwin’s history, the former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain thought to back up a fair bit.
Ashwin was about to load his action when Warner realised that he was way too far from the crease, and reminding about the Buttler incident, he instantly tried grounding his bat. Commentators were also very amused by that, but Warner must’ve been serious.
