Misbah on India-Pakistan ties : Politics should be kept away from cricket

After as many as 18 soldiers were martyred in the dastardly attack carried out by four terrorists, who had sneaked in from across the border, political tension has been on the rise. The BCCI president, who is also an MP of the BJP, said that the resumption of bilateral cricketing ties is not possible in near future.

However, Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq believes that politics shouldn’t be allowed to interfere in sport.

"As a player, I would like to play against India. I would want to captain our side against them. But unless politics is kept away from cricket than there can't be a resumption of bilateral ties," Misbah told reporters in Karachi, reported PTI.

Misbah, who is currently in the charge of the Pakistani Test team, is yet to play a Test against the arch-rivals India.

Misbah said that Pakistan has always pushed for the resumption of bilateral series between both the countries but India has never shown any interest towards it.

The statement came after BCCI President Anurag Thakur ruled out the chances of a resumption of cricketing ties after the Uri attack. Several other Pakistani cricketers have also ridiculed Thakur’s statement.
