Maxwell fined for disrespectful comments on Wade

Maxwell, on Thursday, had spoken about his ambitions to play Test cricket and shared his displeasure at his demotion in batting order below Mathew Wade for Victoria in Sheffield Shield cricket. He said that the move hampered his chances of selection for Australia’s third Test against South Africa in Adelaide last week, which was duly discarded by Australia coach Darren Lehmann.

Lehmann asked, "Are you going to pick a bloke that hasn’t made 100 for two years?”

Skipper Steve Smith said that he was disappointed with Maxwell's comments. 

"I guess one of our values is respect, and having respect for your teammates and your opposition, and your fans, your media. I thought what he said was very disrespectful to a teammate and his Victorian captain," he said on Saturday (December 3). "So the leadership group got together and we decided to fine Glenn, we thought that was a sufficient punishment, so we've gone down that path," reported ESPNCricinfo. 

Smith stated that Wade was disappointed after Maxwell's remarks.

“Wadey was pretty disappointed as well like all the other players. I talk about a respect for your teammates and particularly the captain of your state, so he was disappointed.”

Smith also said that they have moved on from the matter and will focus on winning the game against New Zealand in the first game of the Chappell-Hadlee series. 

“He was a little bit shattered with what he said. I don’t think he thought the words came out the way they actually did, but we’ve moved on from that now. We’ve fined him and expressed our disappointment, but moving on and trying to focus on this game tomorrow,” he added.
