Sreesanth receives notice from Delhi HC on IPL spot-fixing case

Back in 2013, these three cricketers, along with 39 other associates, were charged with spot-fixing allegations by the Delhi Police. The trio were playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL when the charges were brought against them, with Sreesanth and Chavan being banned for life by the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI). Chandila's case is still pending with the BCCI's disciplinary committee.

Sreesanth's cousin Jiju Janardhan, a former U-22 Gujarat player, was also involved in this scam. The Police released a statement claiming that Sreesanth confessed his involvement in the spot-fixing case, although the former Indian international later pleaded innocence and insisted that he signed the confession under duress.

Ankeet Chavan was guilty of giving away 15 runs in an over, in a match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in 2013, for a sum of 60 lakhs INR. The all-rounder eventually broke down in prison and accepted the allegations brought against him.

Chandila reportedly received ₹49 lakhs from bookies, out of which ₹15 lakhs was for spot-fixing a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Incidentally, both Chavan and Chandila were team-mates for the Air India cricket team when these incidents took place.

The Delhi Police planned to charge these cricketers with the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), which is normally used to deal with organized crime and terrorism, but a trial court dismissed the charges citing lack of evidence.The Delhi Police, however, appealed against this ruling at the Delhi High Court, and the defendants have been issued an order to appear at the court for a hearing on the case on December 16.
